Marble Medallion & Floor Design FAQs

WHAT IS THE COST?

Our inlays have a large range of prices. The cost is based upon the complexity of the design, in other words how many pieces of stone it is made from, the density of the design vs. the field or background stone and the materials chosen. A typical floor, if measured from wall to wall will range between $30 and $80 per square foot.

CAN I CHANGE THE SIZE?

All of our products are custom made to your specifications. We can create medallions, borders and accents in any size that will best suit your space.

CAN I CHANGE THE SHAPE?

If you see a medallion that suits your space in style but not shape, we can adapt the design to fit the shape, orientation and size that will work best for your space.

CAN I CHANGE THE MATERIALS OR COLORS OF A DESIGN?

You can customize the medallions by choosing each stone that we use, or you can give us a color palette direction such as “colorful” or “rustic” or “monochromatic” and we will create a color rendering of the design for your approval.

HOW DO I PLACE AN ORDER?

You can place an order by calling us at: 319-237-7230 or by sending an email to contact@aaltomarbleinlay.com

WHAT’S THE PROCESS?

Once you have an idea in mind of what style of inlay you like from the Collections or Products page or from your own reference images and the size of the space or the inlays, contact us to get pricing. Then we ask for a deposit to create color renderings and then shop drawings for your approval. When the inlays are complete, we lay them out in our shop to ensure fit on the job site. When the product arrives to you it is ready to install by a qualified stone installer.

CAN I VISIT A SHOWROOM?

You are welcome to visit our showroom in Fairfield, IA. We can also direct you to one of our authorized dealers across the USA.

HOW WILL IT BE DELIVERED?

The product comes to you in fully enclosed wooden crates, sequentially packed and numbered with a corresponding installation diagram. Typically our product is shipped via LTL freight, which is a curb-side delivery. Services can be added such as; residential delivery and lift-gate at delivery (to get the crate to the ground). For tabletops, we can ship white glove. Our products can also be shipped worldwide via ocean freight or air freight.

DO YOU INSTALL THE FLOORING / WHAT IS THE INSTALLATION PROCESS?

Your local stone installer can install our product. The method of installation is exactly the same as stone of comparable size (with thinset, medium thinset, mud bed etc.). The only difference is that we require that the inlays are dry-fit in the room to ensure correct placement. Installation commences by picking up portions of the inlays and setting them up to the dry fit pieces. Our sub-assembled sections are pre-grouted and we include the matching grout for in the inlays.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FORM START TO FINISH?

A typical medallion takes about 4 weeks for us to create for you. Shipping to the USA and Canada takes 1-4 days depending on the location. For a “whole floor” project, it takes us about 1 week to create the color rendering, about 1 week to create the shop drawing and about 4 weeks to create the floor.

CAN I USE MY OWN FIELD OR BACKGROUND STONE?

If you have the field material already chosen, you can provide us with the necessary quantity of the matching material to incorporate the inlays into. We can also provide the field material. The field material can be stone slabs, stone tile or porcelain slab or tile.

CAN YOU USE PORCELAIN TO CREATE THE INLAYS? WHAT ABOUT METAL ACCENTS?

We can create inlays out of porcelain tile using the same process we use for marble and natural stone. We can also inlay natural stone into porcelain field tile. Other materials such as brass and stainless steel can also be inlaid with the marble.

DO YOU CARRY ANYTHING IN STOCK?

We have a selection of 36” medallions in stock.

HOW ARE THEY MADE?

Once the design is determined, the artist that created it draws the vector lines that in turn control the waterjet to cut the marble pieces. The pieces are then hand assembled by one of our skilled artisans. The whole floor or medallion etc. is then laid out in our shop to ensure precise fit on the jobsite.

CAN I ORDER A CUSTOM DESIGN?

We specialize in creating custom inlays from client reference. Our team of designers includes illustrators, graphic designers and fine artists, allowing us to interpret historical reference, crests, logos even photography, into marble inlay.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Call or email us with the approximate size of the room or inlay and what style from our Collections or Products or reference image you wish to use, from this we can provide pricing.
